I had the honor of being a beta reader for "Stop Worrying: Start Writing." I found The Worried Writer podcasts about eighteen months ago and was so impressed with her advice, encouragement, and knowledge that I asked if she would be mentor. She has been incredibly helpful with support, practical advice, and her knowledge of writing and the publishing process. When she offered the opportunity to be a beta reader, I knew the book would be good. Even better than I expected! with suggestions, scenarios, and practical advice for writers. "Stop Worrying: Start Writing" is engaging and easy to read with the author's own experiences and learning through reading and courses how to overcome her struggles.. As another reviewer said best, "reassuring and empowering, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has ever struggled while facing a blank page, or at any other stage of writing a book."
Even though I have the beta copy, I purchased the final version to support Sarah and plan to buy the paperback version for two friends who are writers - one a beginner and the other who has been struggling for sometime with self-doubt!

Stop Worrying; Start Writing How to Overcome Fear SelfDoubt and Procrastination edition by Sarah R Painter Reference eBooks Reviews
If you have ever doubted your writing or your writing process, this book is for you. Sarah Painter has a lot of tips for redirecting whatever negative emotions might be hindering your writing, as well as many practical suggestions for optimizing your writing process and minimizing procrastination. I found it very helpful. In addition, I recommend her Worried Writer podcast--also full of useful information and wonderful author interviews.
Sarah's calm and cheerful author voice really resonated with me. I always try to remind myself that many other authors have felt similar frustrations, but I never really internalized just how normal my doubts and temporary blocks were. Now I see them and greet them as old friends, knowing they'll pass if I just keep on going. Thanks for writing this book and sharing your experience with the rest of us!
Edited on 8th Feb 2018 I also got the audio book and I think it's amazing; absolutely recommended! Sarah is narrating it herself, so you get that feeling that you're on her podcast, and that she's right there with you, nudging you in the right direction with her calm voice and encouraging attitude. I think it's amazing to have the author narrate the book themselves. Sarah pauses and even chuckles a little at the right spots and the listening experience is just flawless. Perfect for a quick listen on those days when we need an extra confidence boost!
I first came across Sarah Painter during her interview with Joanna Penn on The Creative Penn Podcast. I was pulled in by her voice and then listened to her advice and found a kindred spirit! I went right out and bought her book and devoured it in one sitting. Sarah Painter has a calmness about her (though she would probably disagree) that lets you know you are not alone in all these crazy feelings as a beginning writer, and more importantly, it's okay to have them. She has lots of tips and suggestions that take the angst out of writing and puts the direction of your writing firmly in your own hands. Highly recommend this book! Well done, Sarah, and thank you.
She also has a great podcast called The Worried Writer! (And no, I don't get money for this -- just a fan who has gained a lot!)
Sarah, maybe you'll read this and maybe you won't. I hope that you do. Your book has helped me begin to break down barriers decades in the making. Since I was a child I wanted to write and sell novels. I loved reading so much and I loved writing even more. However, I never ever felt good enough, despite teachers and friends telling me different. Now I sit here at age 31, never having written a book and working in a field that I despise because it pays well. I've continued toying with my want to write a book, to be published, to win an award but have yet to do anything about it. I got a to help me study more things for the job I hate (IT Technician...I'm good at it but I don't enjoy it in the least). I came across your book and, despite my usual procrastinator tendencies, I dove in. It was like reading the internal monologue of myself. The same excuses, the same barriers, the same questions and fears all on the page for me to see.
Sarah, your book helped me break down some walls. I am going to write books. I am going to get published. I am going to win awards and make this work. When that first book gets published, do not be surprised to see your name in the acknowledgements because truly, you have helped me and though we may never meet, you have my most sincere thanks.
This book only took me a few days to read, but I intend to use it very much in the future when I hit a rut (and I encourage every other worried writer to do the same!). Writing advice books are plentiful, but few resonate with me, and most are simply a time-suck. My issues with writing have always been boiled down to a lack of confidence -- not a lack of willpower or want. I always want my first draft to spill out of me, effortless and pristine, and instantly become discouraged when my writing is not as good as [insert amazing author here]. I often fear that the thing I am creating will be such a piece of trash once it's finished that it will have been a total waste of time. This book is wonderful in that it helps you realize that all writing, whether usable or not, is still practice, and that practice eventually leads to a finished draft, and that draft can be fixed. Other helpful topics include writing habits, scheduling time to write, and remembering that this process is a very long one, and we must be patient with ourselves. Also, if you like to binge on books like these, the author has included a helpful list of further reading. I'd like to add another to that list Become a Fearless Writer by Nina Harrington. I think when read in conjunction, the combination could be powerful.
